5 of the Best Micro Wedding Venues in Melbourne’s CBD

These micro wedding venues in Melbourne’s CBD are my favourites for a day that’s small in nature but big in feels.

Romance is rad, whether your wedding is super extravagant or teeny tiny. But lately, micro weddings are stealing the limelight. They are the new rosé! As a smaller-scale option, they’re perfect for celebrating on your own or with a close circle of family and friends. Intimate? Yep. But what they lack in numbers, they make up for in ~great vibes~.

With its killer foodie scene and beautiful historic buildings, there’s no better spot for your micro wedding reception than in Melbourne’s CBD — and I’ve got the receipts to prove it.

So pop open the pinot and dive into the good stuff: my top 5 picks for micro wedding venues in Melbourne’s CBD.

  1. French Saloon
  2. Tea Room
  3. Cookie
  4. Bar Lourinhã
  5. Hazel

1. Enjoy a slice of Parisian dining at French Saloon

For intimate events, French Saloon hits the spot. Tucked away upstairs above Kirk’s Wine Bar, this gorgeous venue has the decadence of a Parisian bar and bistro. The bar was even imported from just outside of Paris! By day, the space is beautifully lit thanks to large heritage windows. By night, cozy up and enjoy skyline city views of the city. With rustic wooden floors, a red panelled ceiling, wooden beams and vintage lighting, French Saloon is moody, cozy and boasts European vibes from floor to ceiling, top to toe.

2. Experience the Victorian era-esque Gentleman’s Club Feel at Tea Room

An uber luxe space with high ceilings and dark wood panelling, Tea Room shares the building with iconic Siglo Rooftop and Melbourne Supper Club. Pro tip: book your ceremony on the rooftop, then head downstairs for an intimate sit down lunch or dinner. The versatile space can transform into whatever it needs to, so whether you’re planning a cocktail event or a more intimate dining experience, Tea Room will tick every box.

By the way, typing ‘tea room’ into Google won’t do the trick, so I’ve done the sleuthing for you – head here for the events page.

Thai food, beer, wine, cocktails and disco; a perfect combination if there ever was one.

Nestled in the famous Curtin House, Cookie is a classic dinner spot that’s basically a rite of passage for all Melburnians, but it's also an unassuming wedding venue. Blending authentic Thai with Australian cuisine, you’re bound to be greeted by a buzzing hall of diners with cocktails in hand. After some peace and quiet? Step into the balcony for a quiet breather and enjoy a drink in the sunshine. Bliss.

Long tables, elaborate feasts, candles and warm decor. Experience the Mediterranean way at the eclectic Bar Lourinhã. Order a round of drinks at the bar downstairs and devour the authentic Mediterranean and Iberian flavours in the private dining room above. You can even add some Latino spice with live music!

The Registry Office is just a 5-minute walk away, so you can avoid heavy traffic or lengthy travel time. (Ideal for grandparents or guests pushing prams).

5. Taste the sustainable and seasonal dishes at Hazel

Located on Flinders Lane, Hazel offers two spaces to suit a range of needs: the Hazel Atrium,  and a full venue book-out on select Sundays and Mondays throughout the year.

Stretched out over two floors of the vibey Richard Allen & Son building, the space can host all kinds of gatherings. As for the delish food – think of house-made cheese, bread, charcuterie, vinegars, misos and heaps more, with a menu that champions low-waste cooking and sustainable sourcing. Love.

The best weddings are the ones that reflect both partners – where the day is treated like an epic party. It’s your day, so break the rules. Wear what you want. Eat what you want. Invite who you want. And don’t worry about the small things. People like me (your celebrants, caterers, florists, the works) will be by your side to help you capture every loved-up minute.

Are you more low key than OTT? If you’re looking for an epic wedding photographer (even just for a few hours!) to capture your micro wedding, head here.
